43. Naked Pictures of Famous People by Jon Stewart

Not quite what I expected. I'm used to up-to-date topical humor from Stewart and "The Daily Show." And I figured this was a good opportunity to see what just Stewart had to offer, without a team of writers. And this book was published in 1998, so I figured it wouldn't be topical so much. What it was was a series of essays, almost all of them about famous people. For example, Hitler's return to society via a "Larry King Live" interview. Or flaky correspondence between Princess Diana and Mother Theresa ('s people.)

While it wasn't as stinging or hot as it might have been in its day, I enjoyed this book. All the essays were imaginative, intelligent, and well-written. I wish Jon Stewart were a little less busy, so we might be able to see something along these lines from his current mind-frame, with characters and ideas from this millennium.

Lightly recommended.
