So... 30 in 2010?

Post  jrpstonecarver on Sat Nov 07, 2009 10:38 pm

We're nearing the end of the year, and it's time to start thinking about next year. Do we want to continue the tradition?

I have to say that the number of participants is down a bit this year. I'd hoped to see more, but it's fallen off.

For those that remain - and those that might join us - should we do it again in 2010? If so, I'll make the arrangements to have it in place at the start of the year.

And yes, I know the index pages never came back up. I still want to do it, but life has been "complicated" this year, and I need to have some serious time to devote to it if it's going to happen.

So, please let us know what your thoughts are, and thanks for contributing this year too!

The aye's have it so far. I sure would like to hear from the rest of our members.

Also, it's getting to be recruiting time. If you have friends who might like to contribute, please send them this way. Or at least let them know about it and have them take a look. New signups would help us all see new things to read.

Thanks!

I vote for 3 x 10 in 2010 Though I have not posted regularly (as evidenced by three postings), I have continued to read and will finish my 29th book soon. I hope to post the names and a short review before year's end, including the date I finished each book.

Thanks Ren. It's good to hear from you again!

For everyone, here's some news and what I will be attempting...

First, the news: I am once again unemployed. As of 2 weeks ago. I am grateful for this, let me assure you. What happens next is a bit vague, but I'll work it out. In the meantime it means there is now time to work on new things for these fora, among other things.

And that leads me to what will happen next here...

The votes are in and we'll do this again next year. But we need a few more people to jump in and participate, I think. To help make that happen, I will setup a description of what we're doing, work out a new avatar scheme, and what not. Once I have that sort of thing worked out, I'll put up a news post here informing everyone about it, as well as sending out another email. (Everyone did get the last email from me a couple of weeks ago, right?)

That information will be your queue to ask friends and family to join us here next year. Those you ask will be able to read the description and sign up any time, but (as usual) the 2010 forum won't open up until Jan 1 or thereabouts. (I will actually be travelling on Jan 1, so it may be a bit tricky for me to work that out, but I'll find a way.)

Also, the lack of employment means I am going to try and get back to maintaining the index pages again, but not just by simply adding to them. I have designs on setting up a database and creating some tools to query things out. That will let people search for specific things, sort in various orders, etc. It will take some time for me to get there - it's not like I lack other things to do, of course - but it's on my list, and my intent is to include all the reviews going back to 2005 in the new system.

So, please think about who you might ask to join us. And if you know anyone from years past who hasn't contributed lately, please consider asking them to come back.

Speaking for myself I find this community really valuable. I learn a lot about other books, get new points of view, and make new friends. It's small enough to be comfortable too. That's a nice touch, and I hope to see it continue for a long, long time.

Thanks all! Look for more information here soon!
