35-36. Two by Don Winslow

The Dawn Patrol
The Death and Life of Bobby Z

The Dawn Patrol is disappointing—easily the weakest Winslow novel since While Drowning in the Desert. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Bobby Z, on the other hand, is one of my favorite Winslows, and this is my second time reading it. It’s most comparable to California Fire and Life in style, although a little breezier. It’s very funny, and absolutely gripping; I can think of very few thrillers that are as fun.
