12. Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life (Barbara Kingsolver)

"This is the story of a year in which we made every attempt to feed ourselves animals and vegetables whose provenance we really knew . . . and of how our family was changed by our first year of deliberately eating food produced from the same place where we worked, went to school, loved our neighbors, drank the water, and breathed the air."

Finished reading it on May 30, 2009
Read it for book group

If not for the book group, I don't think I would have chosen to read by myself. It was, however, a very interesting book, and made me think a little bit more about where the food in the store comes from, and how different our diets are from our ancestors. "Seasonal" foods are not identifiable by all people because they are almost always available, though they taste better at certain times... but one might think it was just a bad batch or crop.
