11. Candide by Voltaire

A short classic. It follows the adventures of a disgraced well-to-do German as he traipses from one misadventure to another. He has been taught and insists on believing that his is the best of all possible worlds. In short, a whole bunch of awful and implausible things happen to him, and he naively thinks everything will turn out okay.

This was ridiculous and confusing. I didn't care about any of the characters, and I blame the translation for not bridging the gap between what the author was trying to get across and what works for a modern reader.

Meh.
