24. Skinny Legs and All by Tom Robbins

I read "Jitterbug Perfume" last year, and I've been anxious to crack open another Tom Robbins ever since. And now I wish I'd gotten to it sooner. He is simply a genius. He makes the English language stand on its head and bark. Things that could never happen in the weirdest Japanese Anime film somehow seem perfectly at home in this novel.

It's about...well, a lot of things. Largely the conflict in the Middle East and how different people view it in different ways from a distance. Also it's about holy artifacts, with origins in what might be the "true religion" thousands upon thousands of years ago. And it's about art; what causes it, what inspires it, what purpose it serves, and what can come from it: comedy and tragedy.

A really, really good book. I loved it. Even more than "Jitterbug Perfume." Now I have to put up with other stuff until I can read another Tom Robbins...
