23. Inherent Vice: Thomas Pynchon

Post  Patguy on Sun Jan 09, 2011 11:40 pm

Thomas Pynchon wrote a detective novel! It’s good fun, and it merges the genre conventions with Pynchon’s manic style pretty well. It’s not completely satisfying as either a detective story or a postmodern narrative, but I’m not sure Pynchon is ever completely satisfying (except maybe in The Crying of Lot 49). I’m giving my mom a copy for Christmas, but I bet she’ll look at me weird.

Wait... did she already get the copy, in which case she may already have given you a weird look, or will that be in Christmas of 2011? Smile

I wrote the review a few weeks ago, so yes, it was a Xmas 2010 gift. And she did in fact look at me a little weird.
