40-42. Three by Fritz Leiber

Swords and Deviltry
Swords Against Death
Swords in the Mist

I’m rereading the Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser series. These are terrific books, and I’ve read a few of them more than once before, but for some reason they never stick in my memory. I think that’s partly because the plots of the stories are less interesting than the characters, the worldbuilding, and the quality of the writing—you know, all those literary things that genre writers aren’t often strong on. Anyway, these are high-level sword and sorcery books, and warmly recommended.

Just ordered these 3 via paperbackswap.com. This series has been on my "I should read it" list for a long time, but I never managed to get around to it. Thanks for the prompt.

The question I have is, are they all as good as the first 3? I haven't even figured out how many there are in total, but I saw #7 wander by in my searching on pbs, so it seems there are a few. Your opinion would be appreciated!

There are seven in total, collecting stories that were published between the late thirties and the eighties: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fafhrd

My memory of these books is pretty vague, but in general I think it's safe to say that the stories from the '60s and '70s are the best ones. So... each book varies in quality a bit. That said, I remember strongly that I didn't care for the last book, specifically because of something the Mouser does that I found very out of character. You'll know what I mean when you get to it.

Enjoy!
