11. Mister Wonderful by Daniel Clowes
This is a short graphic novel by Clowes, probably best known as the author of Ghost World, which was made into a movie I did not see.
This is the story of two middle aged people who have been set up on a blind date, and what happens to them on that evening. To tell you more would ruin the story. This only takes about 30 minutes to read, but was very satisfying. Clowes uses one particular trick several times to good effect; he has the main character's thoughts placed over the speech word balloons of another character, to (in my opinion) illustrate the character's inner monologue drowning out what other people are saying.
Recommended.
